The Beavercreek High School (BHS) Tennis Courts were officially dedicated to the memory of Coach Brad Hagan, who served as the Varsity B coach for Beavercreek Tennis for eight years.
Coach Hagan, named the 2023 Assistant Coach of the Year by the Miami Valley Tennis Coaches Association, left a lasting legacy far beyond his impressive coaching accolades. His greatest impact was in the relationships he built with his players, whom he considered family.
Though he never had children of his own, Coach Hagan believed deeply in the potential of every athlete he mentored. He was known for seeing beyond their limitations and inspiring a love of the game that has endured long after many of his players graduated. His athletes fondly remember how he made them feel valued on and off the court.
Before joining the tennis coaching staff, Coach Hagan served his country in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He enlisted in 1979 and reached the rank of Chief Petty Officer, serving for 27 years before retiring with an honorable discharge in 2006.
Coach Hagan started the 2024 season with his usual enthusiasm but entered the hospital in mid-March. Despite his health challenges, he remained optimistic about returning to coach his team in April. Unfortunately, Coach Hagan passed away on March 30, 2024.
Mrs. Hagan, former players, friends, community members, and school officials gathered at the dedication ceremony to honor Coach Hagan’s memory. Among those present were Superintendent Otten, Principal Wren, Athletic Director Brad Pompos, and Coach Greg Milano, who led a heartfelt 7-up toast in tribute to their beloved coach.
The dedication of the tennis courts is a lasting tribute to Coach Hagan’s dedication to his players, the sport of tennis, and his commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others. His spirit will continue to live on—not only on the courts but also in the hearts of the many athletes he mentored throughout the years.
