iggy

A great way to do some math and science over the summer is with a grow creature. Students in Ms.Mosser and Mrs. McQuade's class did just that with their "class pet" Iggy. First they read the book "I Wanna Iguana" by Karen Kaufman Orloff (which also teaches about the art of letter writing!) then they are introduced to Iggy the iguana. They talk about how he looks, how he feels, and measure how big he is. Next Iggy is put into a container with water and they watch as he grows that week. They continue to discuss how he look, how he feels, how and why he has changed, and keep track of the measurements. Keeping with the iguana theme, the students paint their own colorful Iggy which is proudly displayed in the classroom.
