Mrs. Bisignani's Medical Detectives classes had an exciting visit from phlebotomist Ms. Moriah Kendall-Joy, who shared her expertise on the circulatory system. Students mapped veins and arteries using Sour Punch Straws and even practiced a blood draw on a dummy arm! 🏥💉

On Saturday, January 1h, Coy Middle School students showcased their incredible writing talents at the Power of the Pen district tournament!
🎉 Congratulations to:

⭐ 8th grader Zara McAninch for placing 2nd and advancing to the regional tournament.
👏 Also, a special shoutout to the 7th grade team, which placed 2nd overall for total team points!

🧠🔬 Hands-On Learning in Medical Detectives!
Mrs. Bisignani's Medical Detectives students explored the anatomy of the brain by dissecting a sheep brain! 🐑 Students labeled key regions, learned about their functions, and examined the brain from different perspectives, including a cross-sectional view after cutting through the corpus callosum.

Recently, Coy Principal Andrea Ferguson had the incredible opportunity to join Lt. Colonel John Smith, Coy's science teacher, at the 445th Airlift Wing's Employer Appreciation Day.
This full-day event showcased our brave servicemembers in action, featuring M-4 demonstrations, security forces operations, and even a C-17 flight experience! ✈️ Lt. Colonel Smith, who has dedicated an impressive 37 years to the Air Force, continues to serve both our country and our students. His invitation provided a valuable glimpse into the lives of our citizen soldiers.

Students in ⚕️ Medical Detectives have been working on taking vital signs. 🩺 Nurses Ms. Kathleen Grimm and Ms. Latisha Newport visited the classes in Coy and Ankeney to share the vital signs they take in the clinic and the importance of HIPAA. Students then learned and practiced how to take blood pressure, pulse 💓, temperature, respiratory rate, and blood oxygen levels. Some of the vital signs they were able to take several ways! Amazing!
