(Beavercreek, Ohio) Beavercreek High School (BHS) Teacher Jennifer Schmidt releases a new book titled "Be a Friend: PEERspective on Autism.”
Co-written with Sara Anderson, a former BHS teacher, and illustrated by Nika Venturini, "Be a Friend" was released on Tuesday, March 12. This book is Jennifer Schmidt's third publication. It showcases her dedication to enhancing awareness and inclusivity within educational settings.
"Be a Friend: PEERspective on Autism" combines engaging rhymes and illustrations with detailed explanations of common autism traits. It is aimed at helping elementary-aged students relate to peers on the spectrum to foster friendships and create the kind of world we all want to live in—one where everyone can be exactly who they are.
In 2018, Schmidt released "Why Didn't They Just Say That," and in 2021, she released "Yes, Please Tell Me!" co-written with Ankeney Middle School teacher Megan Rawlins.
"I am so thankful to work in a district that encourages us to think outside the box to meet the needs of our students. The PEERspective Learning Approach is growing nationwide because our district leaders empower us to do what is best for all our students," said Schmidt.
Their book is now available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and through the publisher Future Horizons.
Schmidt and Anderson will attend a book signing at Barnes and Noble in Beavercreek on May 11, 2024.
