CREEK FACT FRIDAY!
It's time for another fascinating tidbit from our community's history! Do you know what happened on February 1, 1934?
If you guessed that it marks a significant milestone in our community's education history, then you're absolutely right!
February 1, 1934, marks the establishment of the first Parent-Teacher Association (P.T.A) right here in Beavercreek! 🍎📚 This important organization has played a vital role in supporting our schools, fostering collaboration between parents and teachers, and advocating for quality education for generations.
Fairbrook students had a wonderful time reading for Read Across America Week, and the district could not be more proud of them. They read 102,009 minutes and raised $21,945.90 during their Read-A-Thon fundraiser! 📚📖📚
Another year is in the books where Fairbrook fifth-grade students welcomed their annual visit from Air Force STEM expert, Retired Colonel Ron Stauffer, USAF!
Each year, Col Stauffer comes to Fairbrook and speaks to students about a topic that he is passionate about: Space! In his talk, students learned about manned space exploration and how astronauts are “Living in Space.”
Mr. Streiff has known Col. Stauffer for 14 years and says he can always count on him to provide STEM talks that engage students in exploring more and being inspired.
CREEK FACT FRIDAY!
Meet Roger Coy! Born on March 9, 1932 (the same year Main was built), Roger's journey through our school district is nothing short of remarkable. 🌟 Before starting his career with BCS, Roger graduated from the Main building in 1950.
From bus driver to assistant superintendent, he held various roles, including secondary curriculum supervisor, assistant principal, and social studies teacher. 🚌👨🏫 His dedication didn't stop there - Roger's very first position was as a wrestling coach! 🤼♂️ After 32 years of service, he retired from BCS in 1988.
Bonus Fun fact: Roger's family are descendants of Jacob Coy, after whom Coy Middle School is named. 🏫
Tomorrow is Roger's 92nd birthday. Help us wish him a very happy birthday! 🧡🖤
🧡Celebrating Our school social workers for National School Social Worker Week! 🖤

Ford stands out in the Fairbrook Second Grade for his respectful behavior towards students and teachers. He is kind and always ready to help when someone is in need. Ford takes responsibility for his classwork and belongings, showing a trustworthy and reliable attitude in the classroom. Moreover, he is willing to be a friend to everyone, embodying the qualities of a compassionate and supportive classmate. You can find Ford voluntarily putting away recess toys, helping others clean up at the end of the day, and offering to be a math or reading buddy to everyone. When Ford is asked to do something, he intently replies “Got it!” He is listening and ready to work and help at any time. To see the Fairbrook fundamentals in action, you need only look to Ford because he’s definitely “Got it”!
Thanks to everyone who supported Fairbrook's Foxtrot Fundraiser! Fairbrook PTO used money raised to install new playground equipment!
The students are enjoying trying out the new climber and musical instruments during recess. And to top it off, the PTO treated students to popsicles to celebrate! 😄

Spoiler Alert!
The image features Edward Zink, Frank Zink, and Otto Zink! Edward's legacy is honored through the naming of the Beavercreek High School Fieldhouse, Frank's in the naming of the football stadium, and Otto's name graces the gym at Ferguson Hall.
The contributions of Ed, Frank, and Otto have left an indelible mark on our district. Yet, it's important to recognize that the entire Zink family has also made significant contributions. 🧡🖤
For example, the tree outside the athletic main office is in memory of the late Anton Zink. Also, Anton’s wife, Becky, has kept the scorebook for our basketball teams for 38 seasons now!
Do you have a favorite Zink memory? Let us know in the comments!
🌟 Staff Spotlight: Lori Howell! 🌟
Lori has been with Beavercreek City Schools for 16 years and works as a bus driver and BHS lunch monitor.
She is also "Rooted" in the BCS community as a Beavercreek High School Class of 1986 Alum!
During her career at BCS, she credits Sue Rex, her bus trainer with Kettering City Schools, as being the most influential person in her career. Lori started her driving career at Kettering almost 30 years ago.
Her favorite memories include meeting so many wonderful coworkers and making friends with many of them.
While not driving a bus or working in the cafeteria, Lori loves to spend time with her family, taking trips to the beach, gardening, and attending car shows with her husband.
"I am proud to be able to live and work in such a wonderful community with so many great people. I'm lucky to call Beavercreek home, " Lori said.
We are lucky to have her in our Creek family! 🧡🖤

🌟 Staff Spotlight: Meet Lula Kersteiner! 🌟
If you haven't met Lu yet, you're truly missing out! Lula Kersteiner shines as the administrative assistant at Parkwood Elementary, and we're thrilled to feature her in our Staff Spotlight this week.
With nearly 25 years of dedication to our district, Lu's journey has been shaped by the wisdom and kindness of influential mentors like Sue Bamford and Vicki Keivel, who have inspired and guided her along the way.
When asked about her favorite BCS memory, she said, " After all this time, there are so many. But being 'a security blanket' for a young girl tops her list. "The girl was anxious about going to class, so she would stop in every day to hug her. I would tell her she was going to have a great day! She would smile and go to class."
We also asked her what it means to be a member of the Creek family, and she said, "The saying that it takes a village is so very true today. We may not know what is going on in a child's life, but teachers, counselors, office staff, and administrators all working together to guide our children to be good citizens, friends, and classmates is so important. I am very thankful to be part of the BCS and Parkwood community. I hope I have helped make a difference in some small way."
Beyond her dedicated work, Lu enjoys exploring the great outdoors with her husband and their beloved dog, Molly. Whether it's soaking in the beauty of Lake Erie or adventuring through Ohio and Kentucky State Park lodges, Lu's passion for travel and adventure keeps the roads hot, as her husband fondly remarks.
Thank you, Lu, for your unwavering commitment and heartfelt contributions to our school community. You truly embody the spirit of excellence and compassion that defines Parkwood Elementary! 🧡🖤🧡

We highlight Jenn Courter, a 5th-grade ELA and social studies teacher at Fairbrook Elementary, for our weekly staff spotlight. 🧡🖤
Jenn has been with the district for seven years and says her career has been most influenced by those she has had the opportunity to co-teach with. "They have pushed me to find new ways to challenge our students and brought joy to my day-to-day life. I could not do my job without them."
Her favorite thing about working at BCS is seeing her students, old and new, achieve wonderful things as they grow and move through the Beavercreek school system.
Jenn says, "The community at Fairbrook has inspired me to be more involved with Beavercreek in and outside of the school. Not only have I built a solid foundation in Beavercreek, but my family has as well.
Finally, Jenn enjoys reading and hiking in nature when not in a classroom. #beavercreeksbest #staffspotlight
It’s Staff Spotlight time again! This week, we highlight Melinda Dyamod, a paraprofessional at Main Elementary.
Melinda has been with the district for ten years and is so grateful to be a member of the Creek family. She loves making memories at BCS and has so many that she couldn’t choose just one to highlight as her favorite. When it comes to her career, she says Ashley Kitchen has been the most influential person.
When not busy at work, Melinda enjoys being with her family, enjoying the outdoors, and trying new foods from different cultures.
We are very lucky to have Melinda as a part of our district! 🧡🖤 #BCSstaffspotlight
Fairbrook fifth graders recently finished learning about food chains. One fun way to understand how energy is passed on between organisms is to dissect sterilized barn owl pellets. 🦉
Owls cough up pellets because they cannot wholly digest what they eat. As these pictures show, these students had a "Hoot" exploring this hands-on experience in the classroom. #Bckschools
Fairbrook's Links of Love annual Fundraiser was an amazing success! We raised a total of $3,840! $2,688 was given to the FISH Food Pantry and $1,152 was donated to Ella's Art Project. Students in Anchored for Life helped hand out the checks and certificates to each classroom teacher. Mrs. Rotella's class (grades 2-5) and Mrs. Carenza's class (grades K-1) were the classes with the most links purchased and each won a pizza party for the class. Great job everyone and a big thank you for helping to support our school, community, and world.
