This past week, Spanish 2 students in Señora Potter's class mimicked a traditional Hispanic market. The students created their own signs and products for their stand, communicated effectively in Spanish with the help of cue cards, and "purchased" products from each stand.
The different stands included Spanish vocabulary for fruits, vegetables, ice cream, meats, seafood, pastries, and clothing. This project lasted five days, and in the end, they got to vote on the best stand, vendor, buyer, and bargainer!
This was such a fun way to incorporate meaningful vocabulary and culture in a classroom setting.

Meet Emily Tyler! Emily is rooted in the BCS district - she graduated from BHS in 2012!
We spotted Emily during the Main Elementary Science Fair. Emily was participating as a volunteer judge from WPAFB when she informed us she had spent some time in the halls of Main Elementary when she was younger. From 2003 to 2005, Emily was a Main student!

More 100 Days of School celebrations!
Shaw Elementary third graders celebrated their 100th day of school last Wednesday. Students used 100 pattern blocks to express their creativity!
In groups, students were each given a bag containing 100 random pattern blocks. However, before starting their creations, they had to determine which shapes they had and each shape's characteristics, such as the number of sides, angles, and vertices. Then, each group was free to use the 100 pattern blocks to create whatever they wanted. Once they finished, the students wrote descriptive paragraphs about their creations.
Some of the fantastic creations the students created include a robot and Pikachu. One group even made their creation 3D!
It was a great morning at Trebein Elementary! These students are ready to start the week.
🌟🏆 Entourage, our middle school show choir, owned the stage at the Edgewood Contest of Champions in Ellettsville, Indiana, over the weekend! 🎤 They clinched Best Choreography, Best Vocals, and Overall Grand Champions! 👏🎉
There's never a dull moment with our Beavercreek JROTC cadets. Recently, sixteen cadets began their journey into aviation with a newly developed Aircraft Simulator Club! This 3-stage ground and flight-centered course is designed to familiarize our cadets with the wonders of flight while having a little fun! Check out these simulators! #theskyisthelimit
Ankeney choir and band students traveled to Fairbrook, Parkwood, and Valley to perform for 5th-grade students as they are considering their elective selections for the next school year.
Beavercreek Robotics Club visited the Mayor’s “First Thursday” meeting!
Matthew Chen(10th), Kayleigh Seflers(9th), and Blake Pochet(12th) addressed “The Honorable Don Adams,” Mayor of Beavercreek, along with local members of the Chamber of Commerce and local business owners, sharing the positive impact robotics brings to their high school experience and catapulting interest in STEM-driven careers.
Students capped the evening with a demo of VEX REC competition robot maneuvers.
It’s Staff Spotlight time again! This week, we highlight Melinda Dyamod, a paraprofessional at Main Elementary.
Melinda has been with the district for ten years and is so grateful to be a member of the Creek family. She loves making memories at BCS and has so many that she couldn’t choose just one to highlight as her favorite. When it comes to her career, she says Ashley Kitchen has been the most influential person.
When not busy at work, Melinda enjoys being with her family, enjoying the outdoors, and trying new foods from different cultures.

The Beavercreek Speech and Debate Team wrapped up their regular season last Saturday, with five students placing at the Archbishop Moeller Tournament in Cincinnati!

More owl pellets. 🦉
Students in our new medical detectives classes learn about human body systems through labs and activities. They examined x-rays of broken and dislocated bones to learn about the skeletal system to diagnose patient problems. Then, they dissected an owl pellet, comparing the skeleton they found to the human skeleton. This class is open to 7th and 8th grade students at Ankeny and Coy Middle Schools.
Fairbrook fifth graders recently finished learning about food chains. One fun way to understand how energy is passed on between organisms is to dissect sterilized barn owl pellets. 🦉
Owls cough up pellets because they cannot wholly digest what they eat. As these pictures show, these students had a "Hoot" exploring this hands-on experience in the classroom. #Bckschools
Join us at Ferguson Hall at 2:00 p.m. this Saturday for a Nationals Send-Off for our BHS Competitive Cheer Team! These ladies are heading to Orlando to compete in the 2024 National High School Cheerleading Championships on February 9-12 at Walt Disney World Resort. During the send-off, the team will perform their competition routine! 🧡🖤

Yesterday at Main Elementary, our second-grade students read and presented a puppet play of "The Chicken Who Couldn't" by Jan Thomas during library time. 🐤
It was a fun way to learn about overcoming obstacles and the power of believing in yourself. 📚

Congratulations to the entire Jacob Coy Power of the Pen team who competed at the district tournament on Saturday, January 20th: Maci Chris, Aniya Gracia, Tanish Mankala, Ashley Profeta, and our regional qualifiers: Jun Oshitani, Gabrielle Newman, Merry Bissell, and Rowan Sykes. Rowan earned fourth place overall in the district tournament.
Congratulations to Coach Schweikert for giving a great presentation on how to build a successful middle school track & field program. Over the weekend, he presented at the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches (OATCCC) track clinic in Columbus.
