Second Graders studied Native Americans throughout the United States. Each homeroom had a different region of the United States and studied the tribes from that area. Then the classes traded to different rooms and the kids presented about their region. Presentations included posters, Google Slide shows, dioramas, and hands on demonstrations.

Fairbrook fifth grade students, aka, explorers, have been learning a lot about our world's environments and ecosystems. After learning the following terms: environment, ecosystem, populations, community, niche, and habitat, explorer teams created a Gallery-walk integrated Project-Based Learning Activity. Each team chose an animal to study and then identified that animal's role under each term that they had just learned. Finally, they conducted their gallery walks where they learned about 17 different animals and most importantly learned of actual examples for each of the terms. The results can be seen around our classroom "habitat," providing for an awesome learning "environment!"

Fairbrook November Shine Award Winner Brayden W. in Mrs. Carenza's first grade classroom at Fairbrook is a true example of what it means to be a Fairbrook Fox. He consistently offers to help the teacher and other students in the classroom. He is always the first to be focused on the teacher and ready to learn every morning. Brayden often sweeps up other students' snack messes even without being asked. He is the student that I trust to bring notes and items to other teachers. His perseverance is to be admired as he challenges himself every day to be the best mathematician and reader he can be. There is no "I can't do this" in his vocabulary. Brayden is kind, respectful, and an excellent role model for his peers.

Character Education
Today was a great day for learning as we had various staff professional development going on. Our BHS teachers learned about ways to use data to inform instructional strategies. Our middle school teachers spent time collaborating to learn more about the characteristics and needs of our students and how we can better support them, and some of our elementary staff spent time learning more about emotional intelligence.
