Santa- I know him! Santa came to visit all of the good boys and girls at Fairbrook

The Grinch visited first graders in December.

This week, we highlight Ashley Bieller, a member of the student nutrition team at Shaw Elementary.
Although Ashley began her BCS career only a few months ago, she says that recently retired student nutrition operations manager Dawn Kacvinsky has been the most influential person in her career since joining our team.
If there is one thing Ashley hopes more people know about Beavercreek City Schools, it would be that we have a great community and awesome staff. She also hopes to influence our students by teaching them to be happy, healthy, and kind.
We are thrilled to have Ashley as a member of the Creek family!

Join us in recognizing Chris Stein for his four years of dedication and service to Beavercreek City Schools as a Board of Education member. Chris' term will conclude at the end of the year, December 31.
Thank you, Chris! 🧡🖤

This week's staff spotlight is Lukas Schweikert, our freshmen world history teacher and middle school cross country and track coach. ⭐⭐⭐
Lukas has been teaching in the district for two years and coaching for five. He says two of his favorite quotes are "To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift" and Mr. Roger's quote, "You make each day a special day by just you being you." He believes every student is unique and has their own special gifts. As long as they give their best, every day of teaching is a special and fantastic day.
Lukas also says that many individuals have influenced his career. "As a Beavercreek grad, Class of 2012, many teachers in the district directly influenced how I teach and coach. To name a few, Mr. Enneking, Mrs. Ford, Mr. Vinson, Mr. Dave Miller, Mr. Cusick, Mr. Ahrns, and Mr. Schaadt all helped instill my love of history and how to teach it. Mrs. Group, Mr. Group, Ms. Egan, Mrs. Pope, Mr. Willets, Frau Humphrey, Mrs. Russ, Mrs. Nartker, Mr. Wegley, and Mrs. McDaniel showed me the importance of student relationships and how they foster educational growth. These teachers showed that if you care about a student, they will push themselves to learn. I would be remiss if I did not mention my actual family, my DPS family, and my Ferguson family (shoutout to Mr. Kelly, Mr. Anderson, and Mr. Gilbert for being the best social studies department!)

Happy Holidays!

There is no better way to celebrate the first day of winter than with the start of winter break! ❄️❄️☃️❄️❄️
No school for students starting tomorrow, Friday, December 22, through January 5. Enjoy your time off, and we will see you after the new year.

First Graders created gingerbread masterpieces this December.

Anna in Ms. Young's Class
SHINE Award- December 2023
Anna does a great job of showing her peers how to be a PAX leader throughout the day. She is kind to others and is always eager to help in any way she can. Anna works well with others and wants the best for each and every person. Anna is very responsible and can be trusted to do extra jobs to help out. She works hard to stay focused on her work and puts all her effort into making her work the best it can be. Anna has a positive attitude and comes in every day ready to be her best. She makes sure she is prepared for class and is quick to complete the routines in our classroom. Anna is a great role model to her classmates and her kind heart shines through everyday.

Hannah Johnson, kitchen manager at Valley Elementary, is this week’s staff spotlight! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Hannah has been with the district for two years and hopes to teach students the importance of kindness. She says, “Acts of kindness make the world a better place for everyone.”
Hannah’s parents are to whom she attributes her success, as they have always supported and encouraged her. They also modeled a good work ethic and strong values growing up.
If there is one thing she hopes people know about our district, it would be that we have so many wonderful staff members, and our students are always the top priority!

Second Graders studied Native Americans throughout the United States. Each homeroom had a different region of the United States and studied the tribes from that area. Then the classes traded to different rooms and the kids presented about their region. Presentations included posters, Google Slide shows, dioramas, and hands on demonstrations.

Join Superintendent Otten for December's Community Chats!

Fairbrook Elementary Anchored4Life group attended the Ohio Schoolboard Association Conference! Molly Laravie and Christine Carenza are the advisors. Gideon, Grant, Spencer, and Kyler were the student representatives. Anchored4Life provides opportunities for peers to enhance social skills, learn leadership skills, build character, and improve self-esteem. Fairbrook students provide community services to our school by teaching younger students friendship-building skills and our community by working with various non-profit organizations that directly impact our community members.

Join us for our November Board of Education meeting this week!

Fairbrook fifth grade students, aka, explorers, have been learning a lot about our world's environments and ecosystems. After learning the following terms: environment, ecosystem, populations, community, niche, and habitat, explorer teams created a Gallery-walk integrated Project-Based Learning Activity. Each team chose an animal to study and then identified that animal's role under each term that they had just learned. Finally, they conducted their gallery walks where they learned about 17 different animals and most importantly learned of actual examples for each of the terms. The results can be seen around our classroom "habitat," providing for an awesome learning "environment!"

Fairbrook November Shine Award Winner
Brayden W. in Mrs. Carenza's first grade classroom at Fairbrook is a true example of what it means to be a Fairbrook Fox. He consistently offers to help the teacher and other students in the classroom. He is always the first to be focused on the teacher and ready to learn every morning. Brayden often sweeps up other students' snack messes even without being asked. He is the student that I trust to bring notes and items to other teachers. His perseverance is to be admired as he challenges himself every day to be the best mathematician and reader he can be. There is no "I can't do this" in his vocabulary. Brayden is kind, respectful, and an excellent role model for his peers.

Join us this week to learn about the comprehensive approach to safety and security in Beavercreek City Schools!

11th Annual Fairbrook Foxtrot! Students were able to raise over $31,000 for the PTO. Then they participated in the Foxtrot obstacle course, complete with a DJ.

Halloween Parties! The kids had a great time celebrating Halloween and raising money. As part of Costumes for a Cause each child paid $1 to dress up. We were able to raise over $400 for the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
